The quality of these woodworking tools is amazing. This simple idea has many practical applications from removing excess glue to trimming proud dowels and pocket hole plugs. In my opinion this wood river 5 plane is the best jack plane for the money. For someone looking for a bevel edge socket chisel at a lower cost these are a solid option. Did some research and settled on wood river for my first major hand tool investment. Comparing them to my japanese chisels well i cant compare them but i would still recomend them at the usual price of 80 bucks.

Unless you want to buy one of the older stanley bedrocks and spend days tuning it. Rob walks you thru getting a small woodriver chisel plane ready to use. For paring chisels they are a great buy at 53. This is just a short review based on the initial set up and a few paring and chopping exercises.
